The Year Ones have wasted no time since getting back from holidays!
We have been busy learning lots of different things and are having lots of fun at the same time.
We have started learning about fractions. We’ve explored a whole, a half… and will soon be learning about quarters too.
We have been looking at report writing and the differences between fiction and non-fiction texts.
We have also read reports on Ladybirds, Teddybears and have written our very own report about Bananas.
Get ready, everyone. There’s much more learning to do!
We have had so much fun learning how to care for our world in our Sustainability Unit this term.
We have learnt all about the 4 R’s – Reduce, Reuse, Repair and Recycle.
One of our favourite books this term has been the recycling super hero story of ‘Michael Recycle’.
This book tells the story of a young boy superhero who uses his knowledge of recycling to help save the world.
We then used our imaginations to invent our very own recycling superhero.
We used adjectives to describe them and came up with an original recycling super power for them.
After collecting lots of reusable materials over the term, we finally gathered all our resources together and built these amazing replicas of our superheroes.
We used problem solving and creativity to make them.
Now they are off to save the world!!
In Literacy, we love reading our Sight Words each week with Miss Williams. We also love searching for sight words around our classroom. We can recognise lots of words and we are very clever at filling up our Sight Word Gardens with all the different words we can find. We search for them on our Sight Word Wall, on posters and on our class charts.
It is amazing how many words we can read and spell now!
In Numeracy, we have been practicing our addition skills and are learning about Number Fact Families. Recently, we have been focusing on ‘Friends of 10’. These are two numbers that add up to the number 10. We use number cards to play lots of different games that help us remember these facts.
In Year One we have been learning lots about numbers.
We have learnt that numbers have different values and that numbers are made up of Tens and Ones.
We love ordering numbers and finding out which ones are smaller or bigger.
We play games like ‘Teacher vs Kids’ and ‘Sheriff’ that help us practice these new skills.
During rotations we also play different number games that help us understand number value.
We cannot wait to teach our mums and dads how to play these games at Open Night.

It has been a great first few weeks in Year One Gold.
We have explored our new indoor and outdoor spaces, made new friends, met new teachers and loved wearing our Faction House shirts!
We’ve sung songs, learnt new prayers and rhymes, used our thinking brain to remember sounds and numbers and had lots of fun along the way.
Everyone is having a go and trying new things.
We cannot wait to share our learning journey with you!

In Religion, we have been talking about helping others by working.
We learnt that we can help our friends, family and creation in many different ways.
We have also learnt that Jesus worked in many ways to help others. He performed many miracles when he was on earth and these miracles helped a lot of different people.
We read two stories from the Bible that tell us how Jesus worked to help others.
These two stories were ‘Jesus Calms the Storm’ and ‘Jesus Feeds 5000’.
We re-told these stories in our own words and then created different art pieces to reflect them.
In Year One, we love learning about Jesus and how he always thought of others.
