Year 2 Newsletter – Term 2
Parent rosters are now up in both Year 2 classrooms so please consider popping your name down if you can commit to a session time. Your help is greatly appreciated and it is a terrific opportunity for you to make a difference and offer really valuable support to our class program!
Over the past few weeks during Integrated Studies both Year 2 classes have been very busy creating our “Stages of Life” book and we are using an app called Book Creator on the iPads to assist us.
We have enjoyed looking at the photos of each other at different stages of our life and reading the wonderful memories our parents have of us.
Thank you to all our Year 2 parents for sending these memories in – they are very special and have really helped to bring our learning to life!
We have also been creating some beautiful Easter art work.
We have used wax crayon and watercolours to create our pieces.
Make sure you pop in to Year 2 on Open Night –
Wednesday 25th March 4pm-6pm
to have a look at our interesting books and wonderful art!
One of our Year Two Australian Curriculum outcomes in Maths is to recognise, model, represent and order numbers to at least 1000. Here we are representing 2 digit numbers with MAB blocks. We are currently working on numbers to 100 and we are excited to have a go at numbers to 1000 next week!
Pop into our room to have look at our “MAB Number Line” – it’s a work in progress!
Our set Mathletics task for this week “Making Numbers” reflects this concept. Be sure to give it a go at home!
We are off to a great start in 2 Blue. So far this term we have been busy getting to know each other and building our team skills. We have commenced our literacy rotations and have enjoyed exploring sentence structure, reviewing our sight words and writing about our holidays.
Take a look at what we have been up to so far…
“Building Team Skills”
Marshmallow and Pasta Challenge – working in small groups to build a structure that supports a marshmallow. This was much more difficult than it sounds but most teams succeeded due to some fantastic team work!
In our literacy rotations we have been creating silly sentences, focusing on sentence structure. We always have a giggle reading our sentence and then writing it.
We used play dough to revise some of our sight words. We made them, read them to a partner and used them in sentences.
We are looking forward to an interesting Term One in 2 Blue!
