A NOTE REGARDING KISS AND GO IN THE MORNINGS …
Dear Kindy Parents
Welcome back to Week Three of Term and the BIG DAY where all thirty of the children in your child’s Kindy class start together! Whoo hoo! Exciting! Maybe a few tears! A few nerves! Lots of people! Fun stuff to do! Experienced staff! And more! As was discussed at your Enrolment Interview and as was mentioned at the Kindy Orientation and Class Parent Night, as a way of giving the children as calm and as happy start to the day as possible, we ask that all parents please ‘KISS AND GO’ in the mornings.
Doors open at 8.30am and you can deliver your child to the Kindy room anytime between 8.30 and 8.40am. Please be reminded however that children are not to just be left at the door on their own before this time.
The goal of teachers at the start of the day is to settle the children in as quickly as possible and to provide a calm, happy, safe, inviting space for them all to begin the wonderful day ahead!
As you can imagine having 30 children and 30 or more Mums, Dads and/or grandparents in the classroom can make for a noisy, a little stressful and slightly chaotic start!
You are asked to please arrive and deliver your child to the staff, give them a big quick kiss and a hug; say something like, ‘have a great day!’ and then leave quickly and confidently. We know it can be hard for some parents to say goodbye, however anecdotally, the children settle much more quickly once parents have left. It’s best if you are feeling a little teary that children don’t see you looking upset (again, we know this can be hard sometimes). If you would like a chat with a member of the leadership team at this time, please feel free to drop in – we are very happy to sit with you and have a cuppa!
It is to be expected that some children may be a little upset when it comes to the big moment of saying goodbye (whether today or a few weeks down the track), especially if they haven’t spent much time away from Mum and Dad before. Rest assured the staff have faced many different scenarios like this before, and between them they have many years of experience, a lot of love and a lot of nurture to give (not to mention a number of ways of distracting children to take their mind off your absence!)
The important thing is that while you might feel uneasy leaving your child, particularly if they are teary, we would just ask that you trust us to deal with this situation. Rest assured if any child is in real distress for any length of time, or if we were concerned about your child for any reason, we would definitely phone you.
Think of your child as the kite and you as holding the string. This is the very start of the slow release of your child towards more and more independence… an exciting and wonderful adventure awaits!
All will be well. Take care everyone and looking forward to the year ahead!
Regards from the St Emilie’s Leadership Team and Kindy Class teachers
