This term we have been learning about Place Value. We have talked about how Place Value means the value of where a digit is in a number. Today we used cards to make the bigger number. In partners we got a deck of cards and shared them between the two of us. From our piles we drew out three cards. With theses three cards we had to make the biggest number. The person who had the bigger number won the cards. We then tried making the biggest four digit numbers using the cards.
Last week in Year Three we were introduced to the shared laptops!
As you know, next year we will enter a 1:1 environment and so over the next semester we will be given a number of opportunities to use the laptops are part of our learning program.
We spent some time talking about how, devices like the laptops, can be a wonderful tool for learning. We also chatted about some of the important ‘do’s’ and ‘don’t’s’ in relation to responsible laptop use.
Some of the ideas we came up with included things like walking carefully and holding the laptop tight when we are carrying them from one place to another. Shutting them before carrying them, not allowing any food or drinks near them, laptops and generally caring for them responsibly was also discussed.
Jacob – I felt good, like a big kid. It was cool to use the laptops for the first time and I would like to learn more about what else we can do on them.
Caitlyn M – I felt responsible and I was really excited when the year fives and sixes brought them into our classroom. I also enjoyed learning new things about how to use them.
We love learning in Year Three and using the laptops is going to really give us even more opportunities to learn on many new and exciting ways!
