It was St Emilie’s first House Day for Mazenod on Wednesday 21 May 2014 (the anniversary of the death of Eugene De Mazenod in 1861), as we named our Houses in August last year. We held a whole school assembly where we linked why one of our Houses was named after St Eugene De Mazenod. The children from Mazenod House at St Emilie’s led the assembly in prayer and shared the story of why Eugene De Mazenod was so important to Emilie De Vialar. Tom O’Brien and Michael Swallow, Year 12 students from Mazenod College, shared the story of Eugene De Mazenod, a brief history of Mazenod College and the core values of the school. Fr Peter Daly, the Rector/Principal of Mazenod College, spoke about the link between Congregation of Sisters of St Joseph of the Apparition which St Emilie founded and the priests of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate of which he is a member. St Emilie’s presented a framed Mazenod House shirt to Mazenod College as a thanks for joining us on our inaugural Mazenod House Day. As a school, the children in Mazenod House (about 85 of them) later had a shared lunch and participated in some fun activities.
