In mathematics, Year 2 we have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes.
We have had a lot of fun naming, describing, drawing, building and manipulating a variety of shapes and objects!
We love a challenge, and some of these tangram cards certainly tested our problem solving skills!
Creating with pattern blocks is a great way to explore tessellating shapes.
We have learnt more about the features of three dimensional objects through a variety of building and drawing challenges!
Next term, we look forward to further investigating flips, turns and slides, as well as putting our mapping skills to the test!
We have been integrating writing opportunities into our morning Fine Motor Groups. This week the children had to respond to a question posed by the teacher in our Thought Bubble. Children are encouraged to talk, draw, write and share on their journey to becoming more confident and flexible writers.
You can help by encouraging children to write for a range of relevant and meaningful purposes at home – creating shopping lists, letters and cards to family and friends, writing emails, keeping a holiday diary, labelling items and photos and leaving notes.
Give children opportunities to read aloud their writing attempts. Listen and focus on the message that they were trying to convey. If children are encouraged to express their meaning and are acknowledged, they will be more inclined to attempt to write.
Provide a quiet place for your child to write with lots of writing materials. Leave notes and messages for each other and engage in writing games. Write together and have FUN!
What fun we had on Dad’s Morning in Pre Primary! We had Dads, Pops, Grandads, Uncles and Mums come along to join in the activities. We loved spending this time bonding and celebrating the special people in our lives!

We have had a lot of fun celebrating Book Week in Year Two!
We loved showing off some of our favourite story characters on dress-up day!
This was also a great opportunity to get together with our Year 6 buddies. We worked together to create a new book cover to match our costumes, and had a lot of fun sharing our stories and ideas.
On Tuesday 29th August, we were also very lucky to enjoy a special ‘Super Duper’ performance by ‘Perform! Educational Musicals’. This musical featured some of the shortlisted and award winning books for 2017, and highlighted the way books can allow us to escape to anywhere!
Back in the classroom, we read ‘Go Home, Cheeky Animals’, which won Early Childhood Book of the Year. This story was a lot of fun to read and inspired us to write our own cheeky stories!
We are quickly becoming very talented story writers in Year Two, and cannot wait to share more of our narratives with you during the Open Night in Week 9!
Here is the Year Two Purposeful Practice Grid and STEM challenge for the next fortnight.
All tasks and completed grids are due back to school on Friday 8th September.
