It’s been a great few weeks! We have been practicing our Christmas song for the upcoming whole school concert as well as our Celebration Day item! What a treat we have in store for you all! We are very excited and can’t wait to share our performances with you.
As Christmas draws near, we have been learning about the special season in the Church’s calendar, called “ADVENT.” The children know this term well and it’s meaning. ADVENT is a time of waiting and preparation. We are waiting and getting ready for the birth of Jesus. Purple is a special colour that is used during ADVENT. It is the colour of waiting. Each morning we pray together, and soon we will light the advent candles.
Recently the children were engaged in an activity that involved “PATIENCE,” (the Fruit of the Holy Spirit that we are focussing on for the remainder of this term). It also assisted them to understand the meaning of ADVENT. First, they were guided to fold and cut out a paper towel “snowflake.” They then placed coloured ice blocks onto their snowflakes, making patterns with them, as they waited and observed until they melted.
We are enjoying creating Christmas crafts. We have made some beautiful ornaments and other surprises for our families!
We are learning and talking about the Nativity, remembering the true meaning of Christmas. We have been reading, discussing and viewing clips on our Apple TV of the important events that led to Jesus’ birth. The children have also loved role playing in the “stable” that has been set up as part of our dramatic play space.
What fun we had at our final Family Play Date for the year! We were blessed with good weather and the children loved showing you all around their classroom and the Pre-Primary play space for 2015. It is wonderful to see everyone so happy and confident as they experienced transition time in Pre-Primary this week too!
