We have been busy in Pre-Primary Blue creating a wonderful fairy garden, which came about as a result of a class discussion about what we could do to to fill our empty garden patch!
We brainstormed, we voted and arrived at A MAGICAL FAIRY GARDEN!
To start with we looked at lots of different pictures of fairy gardens and then collated our ideas of what we would like to add to our fairy garden to make it a great place to be.
Secondly, we designed it by drawing a map of where we would like our ideas to go.
Thirdly, we collected all the materials we needed.
Finally, we went outside and started to put our fairy garden together with what we had come up with in class.
The children had a really wonderful time creating it and they really enjoy seeing ‘the fruits of their labour’ and playing with it during outdoor play.
Hello and Welcome to Week Five!
Pre-Primary Blue have been exploring the ‘Letter of the Week’ through the use of different medias and textures. It has been wonderful to see the children ‘having-a-go’ at forming the ‘Letter of the Week’. Please scroll down and have a look through the different activities the children have been participating in. Everyone has really enjoyed sharing their special object with their friends and it has been fantastic to hear the language being used to describe what it is! Thank you for helping your child to find an interesting object to reflect our Letter of the Week!

We are getting to know each other, making new friends and best of all, learning through purposeful play.
Attached is a photo collage of children ‘playing’.
We have been using play dough to form numbers. Learning where they start and finish is quite tricky but we are doing a great job!
We have also been writing the ‘Letter of the Week’ using oil pastels. Our letter in week 2 was the letter ‘Ss’. It looks a bit like a snake doesn’t it. The children were really enthusiastic when looking for things that start with ‘s’ and bringing them to school for our Sound of the Week display.
We love reading in the ‘Reading Garden’. It is such a special place to curl up with a great book.
Mrs Gomes and I want to say a big thank you for all of the recycled materials you have donated for the children to use for box gluing. No doubt you will be seeing a few of them coming back home having been crafted into something very special.
Last week we were busy conducting PIPS testing with the children. It is a tool for teachers and schools to see what skills, knowledge the children arrive at school with and what they gain throughout the year in terms of Phonological Awareness, Reading and Maths. We conduct PIPS testing in Terms 1 and 4. This time also provides the teacher with a ‘one to one opportunity’ to build an individual profile for each child. The children thoroughly enjoyed the ‘games’ we played together.

Thank you to all the parents who attended our Parent Information Evening in Week One. Mrs Gomes and I are really looking forward to getting to know you in the coming weeks.

In the last week of Term Three we decided to have a go at making our own butter – just like real farmers! We poured a carton of cream into a glass jar with two marbles. Then we all had a turn at shaking the jar. We shook and shook and shook and shook. Our arms began to get tired! Finally the cream started to become more solid and turned yellow. There was a creamy milk left in the jar around the solid butter. We strained out the butter. Then we enjoyed some of the butter on fresh bread. It was delicious and so easy!
In Term Three we learnt all about healthy eating and food groups. We thought it would be fun to combine the two food groups of fruit and dairy into one delicious smoothie! First we designed our own smoothie. We thought about what fruit would make a yummy smoothie and drew it going into a blender. A few days later we consulted our smoothie design and gathered our ingredients. With Mrs Dobson’s help we put our ingredients into the blender, put the lid on tightly and whizzed our smoothie together! Then we tasted them and… it was a success! They were delicious!
