We have been discussing the season of Advent and thinking about special times when we have had to wait to share love, laughter and gifts with our families.
We are developing the understanding that we wait during the special time of Advent to celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas. We have been interacting in learning centres and are having fun preparing for the exciting events in the coming weeks!

Our Pre Primary garden is a place where the children can dig, plant, play and learn all at the same time!
Growing our own food is a fun way to educate each other about healthy eating and to reinforce the wonders of nature. We have built a veggie patch, planted a fruit tree and cultivated a herb garden for the children to grow edible crops. Having the opportunity to harvest, prepare and eat our own home grown produce has given the children a real sense of accomplishment and an appreciation for our food.
Vegetable gardens provide children with an opportunity to grow a variety of delicious produce in all shapes and colours, all year round.
We have grown a range of different vegetables – some salad greens, vine vegetables and root vegetables. We have watched them germinate and grow at different paces.
The children prepared the garden, planted the seedlings and watered and cared for our growing crops.
We were very excited when it came to harvest time and enjoyed cleaning, preparing and of course eating our delicious produce!
We have had lots of fun this week exploring the properties of ‘Kinetic Sand’. It behaves like wet sand and is great for creating sandcastles.
Hermit Crabs are visiting our classroom.
The children have been learning interesting information about crabs and we have been researching how we can care for these little creatures.
We have been engaging in fun ‘hands on’ activities in our literacy rotations and learning to read and write sight words.
We have been reading and researching facts about sea creatures. We created a simple report on our favourite sea creature using Pic Collage on the I Pads.
We have had some fun art projects in our Ocean theme. We created Crabs using our handprints and made ourselves into scuba divers to explore the ocean! Next week we are looking forward to Nicholas’s Dad visiting our classroom with his diving gear to explain to us how you can use equipment to investigate underwater.
It was wonderful to see all the happy and smiling faces arrive back at school after the holidays. The children have settled back into the classroom routines and are ready and eager to engage in learning.
This term we are exploring ‘The Ocean’. We have transformed our classroom into an ‘Under the Sea Environment’. We have a ‘Beach Scene’ in our Home Corner and are investigating models of sea creatures on the light table. We have been amazed to hear the ocean waves in cone shells!
We have been studying collections of shells, using magnifying glasses to observe, sort and classify the treasures from the ocean.
We have been engaging in lots of reading opportunities to discover facts about sea creatures and we will be working together to write informative mini reports about our favourite creatures.
We have loved using the ‘Magic Sand’ to create and mould sandcastles just like at the beach!
Come and visit our classroom to see the wonderful sea creatures we are creating and displaying in the ocean waves in our room.
What fun we had on Friday at our Dad’s Morning in Pre Primary. We invited our Dad’s to spend the morning with us after the Father’s Day Breakfast. We planned special activities to share with our Dad’s including making a tie for Dad to wear and making prints with trucks in paint. We used tools to make shapes and prints in our play dough, we used recyclable materials to create a frameless collage and engaged in Maths activities with dice, money and playing cards.
We had a photo booth in our classroom and dressed up with hats, funny glasses and moustaches. In the outdoor area we played a fishing game, cricket, soccer and football. We had fun using the woodwork bench and real tools. Thank you Dad’s and Grandad’s for coming and sharing activities with us. It was a special day for everyone!
What fun we had during Book Week! We brought in our favourite book from home to share with our friends and spent lots of time READING, READING, READING every day. We focussed on the author Dr Suess and enjoyed sharing his fun and imaginative stories together. We loved coming dressed as our favourite book character and having morning tea with our Year 5 buddy class.
Pre Primary have enjoyed the Balls, Body and Brain fitness sessions with Jacob Aquino. We have had to use our thinking skills, listening and following instructions and developed our gross motor skills participating in some really fun activities. We had a real workout and were very puffed out!
With our focus on The Farm this term we have been thinking about ‘What’s in our Lunch Boxes?’ and ‘Where Does our Food Come From?’ We are looking into our lunch boxes and making links to farm produce and developing our understanding of how food comes from the farm to us. We are also thinking about healthy food choices and enjoying ‘Crunch and Sip’ time everyday.
This week there was much excitement as the Pre Primary children went on excursion to Kelmscott SHS Farm. It was an opportunity for the children to engage in meaningful ‘hands on’ experiences, observing and handling farm animals. The children collected fresh eggs, fed the animals and watched Molly the dairy cow being milked. We loved holding the baby chicks and rabbits and walking around the farm to see all the animals. What a fun day!
This term we are exploring the concept “Where Does Our Food Come From?” as part of our whole school Science focus. We have created our own little Farm in our classroom and a special Farmer’s Market to role play selling our produce.
In Mathematics we have been discovering more about the wonderful world of Addition. We have been drawing paddocks and creating our own number stories about the farm animals in our paddocks! In our ‘Farmer’s Market’ we are able to buy and sell a variety of produce. We are also having fun learning to recognise Australian coins and notes.
We planted a variety of seedlings in our Vegetable Garden last term – broccolini, carrots, beetroot and more! The vegetables are almost ready to harvest and we are going to enjoy cooking and tasting our produce.
