From Year Three Gold
Term 3 Week 2
Curiosity – Why? Why? Why?
This term we are learning all about the concept of Curiosity – the things that make us curious and some amazing facts along the way!
We started our Interact Unit by researching on the Guinness Book of World Records – This had so many amazing facts that made us want to know more! – Taj.
This term we are learning all about the Habits of Mind. In particular, our focus is Responding with Wonderment & Awe.
Wonderment involves asking Wonder Questions and Awe is when we find something ‘jaw-dropping’ and simply AWESOME!!! – Saoirse.
When we respond with Wonderment & Awe, we are open to our learning and then learn more. – Mia.
Our Curiosity unit has started to focus on Space and our Solar System. We have learnt that the moon orbits around the earth and the earth orbits around the sun. The Earth also spins on its axis! – Shanti.
Here is a little fact table that we have made:
|The Earth takes 24 hours to spin on its axis – Teodoro
|The Earth takes 365 days or 1 year to orbit the sun. – Nicholas B
|The Moon takes ROUGHLY 28 days or 1 month to orbit the Earth. – Jenna.
We have started to read the book Esio Trot by Roald Dahl. In Week Two we started to plan a model of the tortoise in the text. We will include the process in our Three Way Interviews and the final product at Open Night in Week 9! – Sigrid.
We are loving the text so far because Roald Dahl is an amazing author!
This term in Mathematics, we have started Year 3 and 4 MAI Maths Groups. We are learning so much about addition, subtraction, counting, multiplication and division.
I like how you can learn in partners while playing maths games! – Luke.
Pictured above is Oliver , who came to show us his fabulous persuasive text today!
As you can see by the stickers, it was a really great read! BRAVO!
Bravo to Jack for the fabulous spelling and printing samples he came to show us in the front office today – an awesome effort!
In the next few weeks staff will be inserviced regarding placing posts on the school website.
We will let you know when these are up and running so stay tuned!
Congratulations to all those children from Year Three who received their First Reconciliation last Thursday evening. It is certainly very comforting to know, that especially when we have lost our way, God searches high and low for us until he finds us … and that when he finds us, he celebrates our return!
As families, may we continue to pray for the courage and the wisdom that it takes to be people of daily forgiveness and unconditional love with all we meet.
