Today we began working through a multiplication and division problem solving iBook.
We are working on this task in pairs or small teams. It requires us to read a story problem, decide whether we use multiplication or division to solve it and then show our working, to find the solution.We’re really enjoying the challenges and look forward to solving the rest of the problems this week!

On Wednesday the 12th of September, we had our whole school Open Night. – Roman
In our classrooms, we showed our families around to look at some of the work we have been doing in class. – Soreti & Jessica
This was an opportunity to show our parents the progress we have made since Term One’s Open Night. – Michele
One of our big displays in the classroom was an Engineering Incursion Reflection which was part of our Balloon Powered Car Project. – Adam & Nicholas
Another display we had in our classroom was our Fruit of the Holy Spirit Goodness comic strips. – Rihanna
We also had a display outside the classroom which were our self portraits that we drew. Our parents had to guess which one we were! – Joshua
This Open Night was a little bit different to the one in Term One. Over in the hall we had a big Maths Expo which we called a ‘Mathstravaganza’. – Ruby & Kieran
The Year Four exhibition was about time and following directions to locate information on a grid. We took part in the challenge with our families to get on the grid and answer the questions. – Daisy, Sophie J & Amber
There were also a few tents in the hall which showcased different parts of maths. – Jayne

On the 13th of September, the Year Fours went to St Norbert College to view their Creative Arts Exhibition. – Nina
We were given a sheet of paper, which had a quiz on it, and we had to look around the exhibition to find the answers. – Sophia
There were lots of forms of art on show such as design technologies, paintings, food technology, tactile artwork, wood and metal work, textiles, clay models and etching. – Eva, Jason, Jesse, Elijah, Fin, Taylah, Gabby D & Keeley
We all loved seeing the beautiful artwork and we are feeling inspired to go and create our own artworks! – Linisha & Louis
At the end of the excursion, we each received a special goody bag from the school, which we loved! – Ayva
It was really great to see some past St Emilie’s students’ artwork on display as well.

On Friday the 7th of September one of our wonderful students presented to our Year Four cohort, Mrs Cogger and Mr Munro, about GreenBatch, an organisation working towards building Western Australia’s first plastic recycling facility. Amber spoke with passion and great maturity and had her audience captivated with her excellent public speaking skills and knowledge of this topic.
After attending a workshop with GreenBatch and doing some research surrounding plastic recycling in Australia in her own time, Amber realised the need for finding a solution to our current plastic pollution problem. She is hoping to work towards a solution by raising awareness about plastic recycling and also get our school community on board with the GreenBatch school recycling program, which we will certainly be looking into.
I would like to take this opportunity to formally recognise Amber’s efforts and to congratulate her on providing such a passion-filled and educational presentation for us all.

This term, as part of our MAPPEN unit, ‘Forces and Functions’, we have been exploring physics, engineering principles and the Habit of Mind, ‘remaining open to continuous learning’. As part of our learning in this unit, we were given the team challenge to design and build a balloon powered car that would travel at least 5 metres. We had to consider the principles of engineering, physics concepts and technology and enterprise skills we have explored in class in order to build a successful car.
After designing, planning, building and trialling our cars over the past few weeks, we are now at the stage of doing our final testing.
We can’t wait to reveal how our cars have gone at our upcoming Open Night!
