Each year, the last Friday in July is ‘Schools Tree Day’ across Australia. To get involved in this important event, Mr and Mrs Cogger kindly organised for the Year Fours to plant some trees in our school bush. Mrs Cogger talked to us about the importance of our school bush as a habitat for animals and plants and the positive impact tree planting has on our environment.
To plant the trees, firstly we had to take the pots out of the trees and put them into the prepared planting holes. We then had to fill in the space around the trees with soil and dirt, pat it down and then soak it in with water.
A special thank you to all of our wonderful parent helpers who gave up their time to help us with the planting and to Mr and Mrs Cogger who organised and prepared this awesome experience for us!

The St.Emilie’s Cross Country carnival was held last Friday.
Our Year 3 -6 children showed amazing effort, courage and determination to complete the course. Thankfully the rain stayed away and we saw some terrific running ability on display.
The results of the carnival were very close, with Gannon edging out De Vialar to win this year’s competition.
Gannon 176 pts
De Vialar 171 pts
Mackillop 164 pts
Mazenod 150 pts
The next challenge for us will be the Inter School Cross Country, being held at Tomato Lake this Thursday. We will be hoping to defend our title as reigning champions.

Thursday the 25th of July was the 100th Day of school! Pre Primary had a fun day celebrating this milestone and learning many mathematical concepts counting to 100 days.
From the first day of the year our classes have counted the days at school in anticipation of the 100th day. The days have been marked with a star on the 100 chart, a marble in the jar and unifix cubes in tens, paving the way to counting by tens and ones and introducing place value.
We all dressed up as if we were 100 years old!
We brought in a collection of 100 items to group in tens and count
We engaged in counting to 100 activities
Mr Munro putting the 100th star on our chart
We were so excited to reach 100 days of school and we have learned so much! It was a great day and a motivating way to reinforce, practice, and build the children’s number sense to 100.
This term, our guided inquiry topic is Social Justice – Celebrating Cultures. As a part of our exploration into the concept of Social Justice, we are focusing on multiculturalism and the development of empathy, understanding and interest in those from different cultures.
In order to explore and celebrate the cultures that already exist in our school, we are organising a ‘Cultural Fair’ for the Year One and Two classes on
Tuesday 13th August. We are inviting all parents, grandparents and friends to be presenters at our fair. Presenters will be asked to share their knowledge and experiences of a particular culture to small groups of children. During the fair, the children will be rotating around to the various ‘stalls’ to learn as much as they can about the various cultural backgrounds that exist in our school community.
Examples of what you may present are;
● cooking demonstration / foods from other cultures
● traditional dance, instruments or music
● traditional games
● items of cultural significance
● traditional clothing or costumes
● photographs of significant buildings / places
● books or songs in another language
Please return the attached form by Wednesday 31st July (we have extended the return date) if you or anyone you know will be available to present on the day…or team up with another parent?
Further details are attached. A hard copy of this note was sent home to families during the last week of Term two.
We had huge success with our Community Fair earlier in the year and are looking forward to making our Cultural Fair even better!
