Literacy Centres in Year One!

We have been super busy in Year One! We are becoming more confident and comfortable in our new classroom and playground and are loving our new furniture!

Each week we focus on a big book story, a new spelling sound and a new list of sight words. We have been working in small groups to rotate through a range of activities that help us to practice literacy skills as well as cooperation, good communication and team work.

While reading our big book we discuss reading strategies such as predicting, breaking the story into beginning, middle and end as well as looking at punctuation and exploring the main characters.

Learning sight words can be a little tricky at first so we practice them every day! We are becoming faster in our recall of letter sounds which is helping us to sound out and write new words!

Check out what we have been up to!
