Year 2B learnt some very important and interesting information from Mr Newman!
Mr Newman is a physiotherapist and gave us some helpful tips on how to take care of our backs.
We had a look at a model of a spine so we could see the importance of ‘sitting up tall’. When we slouch, our spine is bent and we will start getting aches and pains.
We also learnt about how to wear and pack our back-packs correctly. Here are some important tips to remember…
*Pull the straps tight and wear your back-pack high on your back (you shouldn’t feel like you’re going to fall backwards!)
*Pack the heaviest things closest to your back (by using the dividers in your back-pack)
*Don’t make your bag too heavy (you shouldn’t try to carry more that 10% of your body weight)
Luckily our school back-packs allow us to do all of these things!
Here is some more information about ‘Protecting Young Backs’.
We hope Mr Newman will be able to visit us again to share some more helpful tips!
