Mrs and Mrs Cogger were able to borrow a ‘night activation camera’ from the Armadale Reptile Park. We had the camera for two weeks and during that period we set the camera up most evenings before we left the school.
Prior to setting up the camera we had a created a ‘feeding station’ for the bandicoot. Firstly we tried using a small bowl of dog biscuits but that attracted the local cats.
Each morning a small group of students went out to the feeding station with Mrs Cogger to see if there were any bandicoot tracks and if the food had been eaten. Our findings were recorded in our ‘Bandicoot Diary’. Bandicoot? Or bird tracks?
Belinda Bloxsome who was visiting from Sustainable Futures suggested that we try mealieworms at the feeding station as we were worried about encouraging local cats. And finally we had some success. Here are some images of our little friend.
We are most grateful to Armadale Reptile Park for the loan of the camera. This has been a wonderful adventure of learning for our students.
