We have been super busy during our Literacy sessions! This is our journey so far…
Our writing focus for the first half of term three is learning how to write a report. Before we could begin writing we had to investigate what exactly a report was! We looked at examples of reports, on the lookout for the title, classification, description and conclusion – all elements found in a report.
Our first big book this term was Baboon’s Nest by Jill Eggleton. One of the main characters in the story is a Baboon – we were so interested in this animal that we used this as our inspiration for our report writing…now that we know what a report is…it’s time to start planning!
We have been working hard planning and writing our good copies of our Baboon reports! We also created artwork to go with our reports – we had to concentrate very carefully when drawing our Baboon face! We found it easier to break it down into shapes and are impressed with our final drawings!
We learnt that Baboons live in Africa – a great link too to our guided inquiry topic of celebrating cultures! We have listened to African music, located Africa on our class map and have been busy creating our African Hands artwork that you will see very soon at our next three way interview!
Amazing how one book can lead to many learning experiences! Baboon’s Nest has now become a class favourite!
