This week Year 6 completed a first aid course delivered by Stacey from St John’s ambulance.
During this incursion, we learned how to use DR SAB to help someone who is unconscious. Each letter in this mnemonic represents a life saving action.
D: Danger. Is it safe to approach the person? Can you hear, see or smell danger?
R: Response. Does the person respond to your voice? Do they respond to a squeeze of their collarbone?
S: Send. Is there someone nearby who can send or call for help? Do you or the unconscious person have a mobile phone to call ‘000’ on?
A: Airway. Is their airway blocked? Can you clear it of any debris and tilt their head back to open their airway?
B: Breathing. Are they breathing? Have they taken at least two breaths in the last ten seconds?
We also learned how to safely place someone into the recovery position while waiting for help to arrive.
