In Year One Gold we have been learning about Measurement.
So far, we have explored Length and Weight.
We have learnt that Length measures how long something is. Mrs Bull asked us to trace around our foot and measure its length using mini centi-cubes.
We then had to find objects from around the room that were longer and shorter than our foot.
Finally, we put all of our feet together to work out who had the longest and who had the shortest foot.
We have also learnt that Weight measures the mass of an object. We have talked about ‘hefting’ and using our hands as scales to estimate weight. Today, we got to use the balancing scales to measure the weight of different objects.
In our Inquiry unit we have been exploring the concept of Creativity and using our imaginations.
Over the past few weeks we have been given different Creativity tasks.
We were asked to build a home for our class toy Moo Moo out of pop sticks and plasticine.
It had to be able to hold Moo Moo’s weight and he needed to fit inside.
Our latest tasks was to make anything we wanted out of a paper bag.
We came up with some great ideas that were fun and functional.
