Term 3 Week 10
We have had so much fun in Kindy this term and I am so proud of the efforts and achievements of all the kindy kids! To round off this term we read a story called ‘The Runaway Damper Man!’ Based on the traditional fairytale ‘The Gingerbread Man,’ this story tells the tale of a swagman out in the Australian bush cooking damper on a campfire. Just when the swagman is about to enjoy the damper with butter and jam, out jumps the damper man and off he runs yelling ‘Catch me, catch me if you can! I’m the Runaway Damper Man!’
After reading the story we decided to set up our own ‘Damper Cafe’. We had fun rolling out the dough to make damper men and putting them in the oven to cook. We sold the damper men to lots of customers who thought they were delicious!
In the story, the damper man must cross over a bridge to escape from a kangaroo that wants to eat him. We decided to make our own bridges for the damper man to cross. We had to make sure the bridge was high enough for the water to flow through underneath, wide enough to fit across the river and had rails to stop the damper man from falling of the sides.
Last of all we decided to cook our own damper to eat. We carefully measured all the ingredients, mixed and kneaded the dough and placed the damper in the oven (luckily the damper man didn’t escape and run away!) Then we sat outside in the sunshine and enjoyed our damper with jam and butter!
We hope you enjoyed reading about all our adventures in Term Three! Have a wonderful relaxing break and we look forward to more fun-filled days next term!
