Thank you to all those parents who were able to attend the Speech and OT Meeting in our hall yesterday – it was a great opportunity for you to hear from both Wendy Marshall and Berry Johnston in regard to the assessment results and to ways you can be supporting your child’s speech and OT development at home.
The Kindy teachers have already met with both Wendy and Berry to analyse the results of the whole cohort and they will now use this valuable information to better inform their teaching and learning program – for individuals and for the whole group. Wendy has been a speech pathologist for over 20 years in the health, education, disability and private sectors, in both rural and metropolitan centres. She also has vast experience with Autism Spectrum Disorders and is a published author as part of the team at Autism West & the Telethon Kids Institute. We are very fortunate to have Wendy and her team working here at St Emilie’s.
Berry Johnston is the principal OT and founder of Lil Peeps OT for kids. This Occupational Therapy service provides customised high quality consultation, intervention and support for children, their families and for schools like ours. Berry and her team continue to provide quality intervention here at St Emilie’s.
Speech and language therapy is concerned with the identification, assessment and support of speech, language and communication needs of children.
Occupational therapy addresses the physical, cognitive, psychosocial and sensory components of performance. In schools, occupational therapy practitioners focus on academics, play and leisure, social participation and self-care skills.
If you have a child that you are concerned about please speak with your teacher and they can support you to connect with a therapist in our school.
