Procedures – Writing
We have been busy learning how to write procedures using the correct structure – title, goal, materials and steps. We wrote procedures on how to make our favourite sandwiches and picked a few to test out. Mrs Roberto listened carefully to some of our procedures and followed them very carefully…but ended up making some funny looking sandwiches! This fun activity showed us the importance of having very clear steps and writing them in sequential order!
Feelings – Keeping Safe Curriculum
We have been talking about our feelings and the warning signs are body gives us when we are feeling a particular emotion. We used collage materials to build faces showing different emotions as well as using the iPad to take photos of each other showing different feelings. We were very creative in our photos and managed to sneak in a selfie or two!
The Pencil – Vocabulary
We enjoyed studying the story The Pencil by Allan Ahlberg and used our focus vocabulary words – shiver, hesitate and ridiculous – to write some very clever sentences! We have been working hard to ensure our sentences are ‘super sentences’….they start with a capital letter, have spaces between words, end in a full stop and they have to make sense! Lots of things to remember!
“In Japan I shivered because I was playing in the snow then I went back inside” – Charlene.
“I hesitated when I was going to a new school because I had never gone there before” -Rhys.
“I hesitated when I went to the monkey bars because I didn’t know how to use the monkey bars” -Nicholas.
“Your shoes look ridiculous because they have ping pong balls and pipe cleaners on them!” -Armyne
We also thought about what it would be like to take the place of main character in the story…if you were the pencil, what would you have draw? We came up with some creative ideas and did an amazing job at adding so much detail to our drawings…using just a pencil of course!
We are always so busy in Year One!
