100 Days of FUN!
What fun we had celebrating the 100th day of school! We eagerly counted from day one until we reached our target and the excitement in our class grew as the days became closer. Our knowledge of numbers to 100 has grown and we enjoyed participating in a range of mathematical activities based on the number 100. Thank you to all families for the effort that went into the children’s costumes for our celebration day…it was wonderful! We are still counting all the collections brought in by all the children of 100 items!
These fine gentlemen pictured below put their creative brains to work on the 100th day of school and developed an idea to build 100 cubes, which they then decided amongst themselves that they would use to build a tower. Each cube required 4 pieces to make…if they were putting together 100 cubes, how many pieces in total were needed to complete this project? Have you worked it out? These gentlemen did, through our discussions together, about their amazing work! Learning through PLAY is so POWERFUL!
In the days that followed our celebration, we practiced reading together during guided reading about the 100 days of school. We learnt about what a tally is and drew 100 tally marks. To do this, we needed to count in groups of five and then circle two groups to make 10. Then we counted in tens until we reached 100 tally marks. We are pretty amazing at counting in tens now! We wrote about: the things we would like to achieve before we turn 100 years old, what we would do if we had $100 and what 100 things we would like to have, if we could. We also created some beautiful artwork of how we think we may look like when we do reach 100 years old…
…look out for this special work at OPEN NIGHT!
It was truly a memorable day that we will all treasure!
