Last Friday, St.Emilie’s entered two boys teams and a girls team into the Lakeside Basketball Slam Series.
The competition was divided into 4 pools. Each team played in Three qualifying games, with the top placed side in each pool to advance to the semi-finals and then the grand final.
Our Girls team began with a draw, followed by 2 convincing wins- taking them directly to the semi-finals. Once again, the girls put in a dominant performance to advance to the grand final.
After a low scoring and tough first half, the girls eventually ran away with a grand final victory after defeating Willetton Primary School.
Our two boys teams were placed in separate pools.
Our A team went through the qualifying rounds unbeaten, with some terrific basketball and some big wins!
They then won their semi final in convincing fashion to make the grand final.
The final was a very physical contest and our boys went into half time with scores level. After digging deep in the second half, our boys eventually pulled away to claim victory, winning by 6 points.
Our B team had a mixed day. They had an excellent win, but also suffered a number of close losses. Unfortunately they missed out on the semi-finals.
Overall it was a hugely successful day for St.Emilie’s, winning both the boys and the girls competition. These teams have now qualified for the State Championships to be held at Bendat Stadium on November 21.
A huge thank you to Mr. Mckie, Mr Carroll, Mr Cottrell and all the parents who turned up to cheer and provide support.
