We hope everyone has had a great week!
This week in Maths we continued to explore measuring and have been learning how to use a ruler for measuring. We learnt that it is important to use formal measurements so we can get more accurate results We also discovered that when using a ruler we have to start from 0cm. We talked about estimating, which means taking a good guess. We looked at different objects around the room and estimated their lengths in cm. After estimating, we used a ruler to accurately measure the objects. Some of us got super close estimates!
We used our measuring skills to see how tall someone is using blocks!
This week in Literacy we have been learning about and creating Adjective or Describing Poems. A Describing Poem tells us about a person, place, thing or animal. We chose to write one about our mothers after celebrating Mother’s Day recently.
To write a Describing Poem, you need six lines:
- A title
- A line describing what the topic looks like
- A line describing what the topic sounds like or says
- A line describing what the topic does
- A line describing their personality for people or size for places, things or animals
- A conclusion, usually about our feelings
Here are some examples of our poems:
My Wonderful Mum
Happy and Smiling
Saying ‘Do you want help with your homework?’
Caring about me
Joyful and Helpful
I love my mum!
My Strong Wonderful Mum
Loud and clear
Loves and protects me
Kind and wonderful
My mum is the best mum in the world!
We are looking forward to seeing all our wonderful Year Two faces next week!
