In Year Three, we have been learning about the Church Sanctuary, as part of our ‘Eucharist’ unit in Religion. We explored some of the interesting and important objects and symbols that we see at church to find out what they mean. We learnt that:
The tabernacle is the place where the bread, which is Jesus’ body, is kept during Mass – Zane
The sanctuary lamp is next to the tabernacle and signifies that Jesus is present with us – Agnes
The lectern is the stand where readings are delivered by Father and other speakers – Nathan
The crucifix is seen in all Catholic churches and is an important reminder of the sacrifice Jesus made for us – James
After learning about these special objects and symbols, we went for a visit to our St Emilie’s church to find these objects. It was a lovely experience!
On Wednesday was our Year 3 Community Mass. Four students from Year 3 volunteered to read at the lectern. Charlie, Kevin, Cade and Arianny did a fantastic job of reading fluently and reverently!
We are enjoying learning all about our wonderful Church!
