In Year 2 we have begun exploring the measurement of length and had a lot of fun participating in a measurement challenge on Friday!
Using just one piece of paper, scissors and glue we needed to try and create the longest paper chain possible in 10 minutes!
There was some great teamwork happening, as well as some very clever strategies!
When time was up we ordered our paper chains from shortest to longest. The winning team created a paper chain so long that it touched the floor!
We are looking forward to sharing even more of our learning with you at our Open Night on Wednesday 23rd March. The classroom will be open from 4:00 to 6:00pm.
Year 2G have been having a great time learning about measurement this past fortnight with many different and challenging activities set up in the undercover area!
The measurement curriculum standards in Year 2 are to ‘compare and order several shapes and objects based on length, area, volume and capacity using appropriate uniform informal units’, as well as ‘compare masses of objects using balance scales’.
We have been learning to…
estimate and measure ‘how many fit’.
Measuring and comparing the length of our friends and body parts!
Using balance scales to compare the weight of objects. We often had a lot of teddies to count!
Discovering which containers have the biggest capacity.
We are looking forward to extending and consolidating our learning with further measurement activities back in the classroom!
