This week in Religious Education we have been learning about the ways each person’s body is different and that each is unique and special. We recognised that even though we are all different, God loves each and every one of us the same.
To gain an understanding of how people with vision impairment use their bodies we covered our eyes and asked our friends to guide us around the junior oval. We learnt that we had to rely on the other senses in our body to guide us safely, as well as relying on a friend for support.
Aidan – It made me feel a bit sick and dizzy.
Meika – I saw black and pink.
Savannah – I felt scared because I couldn’t see where I was going.
Amelia – I felt worried because the ground was uneven. I felt like I was going to fall over.
Some discussions we had in Two Blue were…
- We felt scared because it was dark
- We felt dizzy because we couldn’t see
- We were worried that we were going to bump into something
Another challenge we faced was completing a guided drawing of a monster using our non dominant writing hand. Many of us found this difficult and frustrating. From these challenges we have been able to form a deeper appreciation of what our body can do.
Jayden – My drawing was really messy, I didn’t like it.
Leandra – I felt bad because it doesn’t look good
Aidan – It made me feel embarrassed
Titan – I felt sad because I was worried that people might laugh at my work
Gabriella – It felt really weird, I haven’t done that before. My normal hand is so neat.
In Writing this week we have been continuing to learn the actions to our Story Map. We are learning to tell the story of Little Red Riding Hood so that we can verbalise and sequence a story aloud before writing it. As part of our writing lessons this week we have also been learning to write a sentence of three. Using the sentences of three we made WANTED posters. We are hoping that we will be able to track down the Big Bad Wolf soon.
Here are our final Romero Britto pieces. We are very happy with how they turned out. Shortly in Art, we will be looking at warm and cool colours. We look forward to producing some new Artwork to display in the classroom.
This morning it was National Simultaneous Story-time. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. This year our book was… Give me some Space!
Both Year 2 classes listened to a real life astronaut, Charlie read the story.
We really enjoyed listening to Charlie talk about his experiences in space and some his favourite facts.
This week in Year 2 we have been learning about measurement!
We have been measuring objects inside and outside the classroom using rulers, dinosaur foot prints, centi-cubes and pop sticks.
In writing we finished off our holiday recounts and continued learning about describing poems.
In Art we started sketching portraits, we can’t wait to share these with you all.
We have also been practicing for our assembly. We are very excited to be performing it next Friday to the junior school.
Welcome back to Term 2!
We have had a busy first week back at school and have really enjoyed hearing about everyones wonderful holidays.
This week we have started to learn about some of our new topics, these are:
Mathematics: Measurement and Weight
English: Recount writing and Poetry
Religion: Penance and Prayer
HASS: The continents and oceans of the world
We have also opened up our new play areas. These areas have been created for the students to independently practice their knowledge of the new concepts during our literacy and mathematic rotations.
*** Just a reminder to send in a photo of yourself with your mum for our Mother’s Day Assembly.
Have a lovely long weekend,
Nicole & Tiana
This week in Year 2 we have been finishing up many of our topics and showing how much we know by completing some assessments.
On Monday we had a recount writing assessment. We split up into different classrooms and wrote all about our weekends.
On Tuesday we had a persuasive writing assessment. We really enjoyed this one as we had to convince the Easter Bunny to deliver chocolate to children instead of carrots. Some of us… Miss Massimi would prefer carrots over chocolate, so we had a fun time trying to convince her why chocolate is better. For some reason, she is still not convinced!
In maths this week we have been learning about odd and even numbers. We mixed classes to play Place Value and 10 more, 10 less games. We hope your children will be able to teach you some of these games over the holidays.
In Religion we have been learning about the Easter Story and reflecting on our Lenten Promises.
On our last day of Term 1, we went out for morning fitness, watched the Year 5 assembly, had a colouring in competition and watched the movie ‘Hop’.
We hope you have a wonderful, safe and restful Easter!
Over the past few weeks in Year 2 we have been learning about… 10 more, 10 less, 20 more, 20 less, 100 more, 100 less.
This week we decided to put our knowledge of place value and 10 more, 10 less to create an MAB block creation. Some of the things we made were… robots, flowers, butterflies, dinosaurs, unicorns and people. We had fun!
You will be able to check these out on SeeSaw shortly.
This week in Year 2 it was Harmony Week. We have been speaking about our differences and similarities. We found out that some of us in Year 2 were born in different countries, come from different backgrounds, speak different languages, eat different foods and celebrate different things.
We are proud of our differences and are thankful that we are able to share these differences with others without being judge, because… EVERYONE BELONGS!
We decided to create flying objects with our nationalities flag on it. Come and check them out on our windows.
We hope you are having a lovely start to the week 😊
From this week onwards, the Purposeful Practice Grid will no longer be printed out. It will be posted on the school website.
This will not need to be printed and brought into school every second Friday.
